How to Remove Drawer Liner

I found an awesome, mid-century Drexel dresser at my Habitat for Humanity Restore. It came with one drawer covered in this dated drawer liner. The liner wasn’t even cut perfectly rectangular and didn’t fit the drawer quite right. I decided I must remove drawer liner! Here’s an easy technique to get any old, stubborn drawer or shelf liner off of a surface without much difficulty at all.

And that’s really it!

Project: Remove Drawer Liner

I had initially gone at the drawer liner with just the scraper tool. As you can see, I got very little off. Also, it came off in small pieces. Super annoying.

So then I got out the big gun: my hair dryer! I set the dryer on hot, with medium blowing speed, and slowly went over the end of the drawer liner. Wow! It became much more flexible. I could easily take my scraper tool and slide it underneath to loosen the liner up and remove it. It actually got so easy to work with that I spent most of the time using my fingers to pull it up. The heat softens the adhesive on the bottom of the shelf liner enough to make it do this.

Within a matter of minutes, the liner was completely off! Much of it came off in larger chunks, which was also nice. I lightly sprayed some Goo Gone on the drawer and wiped it down with a rag to get rid of any residue. The Goo Gone leaves a bit of an oily residue, so then I took some regular, natural cleaner and sprayed and wiped it down again.

I made a YouTube video of the process as well…enjoy! It’s my first stab at video making!
