One of the most important features of any kitchen is storage. I am fortunate to have a ten foot long pantry to store my kitchen items. However, there wasn’t a very easy way to store my pots and pans. Whenever I’ve stored them in cupboards, I always have to stack them “just so”, or it becomes some sort of Jenga puzzle whenever I need to get a particular pot or pan out.
Enter in this nifty ikea kitchen storage hack! I used two FINTORP rails from Ikea, installed them on the empty wall of my pantry, and voila! Instant, easily accessible pot and pan storage! The rails themselves cost maybe $8 each, and the 10 hooks, about $6-8 more. So less than $25 for bringing some sanity to your pot and pan organization and accessibility!
Easy Install
It took less than an hour for my new-to-home-improvement self to install the rail system. The only tool I really needed was my power drill.
Since the wall is 10 feet long, I decided to take the two rails and put them together. The instructions that come with the Ikea rails show how to install, and it’s pretty straightforward. Each rail is 22.5 inches long, so I have a total of almost four feet of rail to hang items from. You can also buy more hooks, if you want to squeeze more than five items in on every rail, but I found that worked out about perfect for what I needed and the size of my pans.
If you’re tight on space, you could install the two (or more) rails vertically, so one above the other. If you have a wall next to or behind your stove, that might be the perfect place. Just make sure you don’t have any cabinets that will open into where your pans might be hanging.
A Practical Ikea Kitchen Storage Hack Solution
Using the FINTORP rail system for pot and pan storage has alleviated the daily challenge of keeping my pots and pans organized. I no longer have to stack them “just so” in a cabinet every time I need one or need to put one away. Whenever I need a pot or pan, I just grab exactly I need and get on to cooking. After washing dishes, I can easily put them away without playing pot and pan Jenga.
I also love the look of the rail system. It’s a sleek and attractive design, and it puts my pots and pans on display. My stainless steel pots shine! You could even throw in a cute hanging decor item amongst your pots and pans to jazz it up a bit.
Where To Purchase a Rail System
Of course, you can get the FINTORP Rail System from Ikea. They also have several other wall rail systems, if you are looking for something that’s a little bit different style.
